| Idea Project Returns to Lakeridge What if we all understood each other's differences? The IDEA project is a one-week program custom-tailored for elementary students that offers an opportunity to build understanding and empathy through experience and education. Learn more about The IDEA Project here.
The IDEA Project takes place at Lakeridge on March 25 - 27. We’ll kickoff the week with two age-appropriate assemblies (K-2 and 3-5) and then each class will rotate through four activity stations that simulate the experience of learning with different abilities. This is an incredible program and we are very excited to have The Idea Project back for a second year!
We need YOUR HELP! Volunteers are essential to making this a successful experience for our students. Please consider volunteering via this link. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher to find out when they are scheduled to go through the stations.
The IDEA Project team will give you all the training you need to run the stations. Running stations is super easy and fun! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Allison Bureau at info@theideaproject.org. |

| Mercer Island School District Board policy requires the Superintendent to determine no later than April 15 annually if the district will be open to new nonresident student enrollment for the next school year. More information on residency requirements for enrollment in MISD can be found on our website. Superintendent Rundle and the School Board have been discussing open enrollment at recent Board meetings as they work towards a decision. Superintendent Rundle hosted a community webinar on Open Enrollment on March 19, which was recorded and available on this YouTube channel and district website. The webinar updated our community on these discussions and highlighted the possible options, logistics, and parameters of open enrollment if the district decides to move in this direction. There are two Board Meetings in March, on Thursday, March 14 and Thursday, March 28. These will be two other public meetings where open enrollment will be discussed. |

| Ramadan Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting prayer, reflection, and community. Ramadan is considered one of the holiest months of the year for Muslims. In Ramadan, Muslims commemorate the revelation of the Qur’an, and fast from food and drink during the sunlit hours as a means of drawing closer to God and cultivating self-control, gratitude, and compassion for those less fortunate. Ramadan is a month of intense spiritual rejuvenation with a heightened focus on devotion, during which Muslims spend extra time reading the Qur’an and performing special prayers. At the end of Ramadan, Muslims celebrate one of their major holidays called Eid ul-Fitr or the “Festival of the Breaking of the Fast.” Children traditionally receive new clothes, money, or gifts from parents, relatives, and friends. A special prayer and sermon are held on the morning of Eid day, followed by a community celebration usually in a park or large hall. Food, games, and presents for children are important parts of the festivities, as friends and family spend the day socializing, eating, and reuniting with old acquaintances. The greeting Eid Mubarak means “blessed holiday!” Books: - The Gift of Ramadan by Rabiah York Lumbard

| Nowruz Nowruz is the Iranian or Persian New Year celebrated by various ethnic groups worldwide that started as a Zorastrian celebration. Nowruz, or "new day" in Persian, is an ancient festival that marks the beginning of spring and celebrates the rebirth of nature. And naturally, it has a lot to do with fresh, green foods just beginning to poke out of the ground that remind us winter is not, in fact, eternal. Nowruz begins at the stroke of the vernal equinox, when the sun crosses the equator. When the equinox comes, millions of families of Iranian descent gather around a ceremonial table known as the haftseen. Young and old hold hands and count down to the New Year together and cheer Eide Shoma Mobarak, or Happy New Year!
