Our Lakeridge PTA newsletter
The Lakeridge Lions' ROAR is a PTA newsletter that provides various information about events, both at the school and in the community. We also include important district information and any other general information that may be relevant to our community.

New to Lakeridge? Did you know that due to privacy laws (FERPA), the district is not allowed to give any contact information out to the PTA until 5 days after school has started? So, unfortunately, a lot of the new families get lost over the summer as we are not allowed to get your information. We can, however, contact you if you sign up for the email list.
content submission guidelines
The ROAR is meant to be a tiered information system with summary information displayed and more detailed information attached/linked to the article. The ROAR is not meant to be a traditional newsletter displaying full articles. To increase efficiency and readership, our aim is to keep the scroll to a reasonably short length for people who read info on mobile devices.
Lakeridge-specific Information:
- What is displayed in The ROAR? For Lakeridge related items: Synopsis such as (1) Attention Grabbing Headline and opening sentence(s), (2) brief, factual, bulleted summary including who, what, where, when, why (3) websites with more info, (4) Picture (yours or we can select a stock image)
- What if I have a longer article? If you submit a full article without a summary, Roar Editor(s) will summarize for you and attach the full article via the “Read More” link. Ex. Documents longer than 2 short paragraphs, reports, document with multiple photos to share with parents.
Length of Article:
In order to keep The ROAR fresh and interesting, we prefer not to run the same article more than twice. If you are promoting an event that will occur more than one month out, we recommend the following:
- Let us know and we will put the event in the “Upcoming School Events” area of the Roar
- Submit a brief “Save the Date” article
- Two issues out: submit your full article
- Issue right before event: submit a new promotion article
Picture Submissions: Images over 350KB will be compressed and may not be inserted due to size. Pictures must be .jpg, .jpeg or .png format. Photo permissions are NOT needed to put children’s pictures in the Roar (note: this is a change from previous years). If a parent does not want his/her child’s photo published please let them know to turn in the “Notification of Rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act” form found in the E Parent Pack. A copy of this is also available in the Lakeridge Office.Roar Categories: Articles will be divided into common categories such as PTA Information, Extra Curricular Activities, Student Club Information, In the Community, etc. Editors can create categories as the need arises.Document Submissions: If a document is needed to accompany a submission (such as a registration form), documents must be in PDF format.
Outside Community Information:
The PTA does not sponsor these events. What is displayed in The ROAR? As a service to Lakeridge PTA members, Lakeridge PTA offers a standing list of hyperlinks to organizations that offer child/family-related programs/services on Mercer Island. These organizations must offer programs/services to all. For anything that is not Lakeridge-specific, we will include a listing of your organization on the Lakeridge PTA “Community Programs” page with a hyperlink to your website. Please send this information to communications@lakeridgepta
Article/Link Submission Deadlines: Articles are due by 4pm on Tuesdays, one week before the next newsletter run. The ROAR is distributed biweekly on Sundays as appropriate with the school calendar. Articles may be submitted to editor@lakeridgepta.org.
Incomplete Submissions: If The ROAR Editors have a question/issue that needs to be addressed before they can complete inserting the article into The ROAR, they will make all reasonable attempts to contact the author. If the author does not respond with an answer, Editor has the authority to suspend the inclusion of the article until said questions or issues are resolved.
Reminder:
