Volunteer at the MI Thrift Store Looking for volunteer opportunities in the community? The Mercer Island Thrift Store has opportunities that are both one-time opportunities and long-term. Our one-time opportunity is helping our community sort their donations into categories during drop-off hours which are currently 8-11am Sunday through Thursday. But for parents that are looking to dedicate their time on a more regular basis, we have cashiering, sales floor, online store, apparel production assistants, and our collectors, specialized folks, for pricing the donated items in an assortment of categories (shoes, books, sports, art, holiday, home décor & more). These positions are held Sunday through Thursday from 9-6pm. Find out more information on our volunteer page. |
| A huge Lion's ROAR OF THANKS to Sarah Akhtar and Sarah Wahlster for organizing this year's Lion's Pride Breakfast! A delicious breakfast was enjoyed by those who attended. The morning was also made a success by the parent volunteers who helped set-up, serve, and clean-up. Your dedication to the Lakeridge Community is appreciated! |

| Native American Heritage Month and Native American Heritage Day Since President Bush first signed a joint resolution in 1990, November has been celebrated as Native American Heritage Month. Mercer Island School District joins Washington, the Pacific Northwest, and the country in celebrating the cultures, traditions, and histories of Native people. Their critical contributions, past and present, should be acknowledged and admired. Friday, November 25 is recognized as Native American Heritage Day. Taking his father’s lead, George W. Bush signed into law on October 8, 2008 legislation making the day following Thanksgiving Native American Heritage Day. Refer to the below information regarding land acknowledgement we use in the district and some of the resources created by Leslie Scheurich, a third grade teacher at West Mercer. Mercer Island Land Acknowledgement - We acknowledge that we occupy the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish Peoples, in particular the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We see you, respect your right to sovereignty and self-determination, and are committed to being better listeners, learners, and in lifting indigenous voices.
