Read-a-Thon: Pledges Due by February 16

We did it! The Lakeridge Read-a-Thon is complete, but there is a very important task that we hope you won’t forget: PLEDGES.

Pledges are due by Friday, February 16, and payment can be made electronically here (preferred method) or via check or cash to the school front office. Proceeds go back to the school to help fund many of the activities our students love. We’ll then announce the prize winners during lunch on Thursday!

Reading logs should have been turned in on Monday by your student. If you want to confirm or send their results via email, please reach out to readathon@lakeridgepta.org. Copies of all Read-a-Thon materials can also be found on the event webpage.

We look forward to announcing all the prize winners, including the Bookmark Contest, during lunch on Thursday.

DON'T FORGET TO TURN IN YOUR READING LOGS BY MONDAY 2/12.

Congratulations to all our amazing readers! Go Lions!

MISF 2024 Spring for Schools Art Contest

The Mercer Island Schools Foundation invites all students currently enrolled in the Mercer Island School District to participate!

The theme this year is "Your favorite thing about school"

Discover the magic of expressing "Your favorite thing about school" through art! We invite students to unleash their creativity and showcase their exceptional talent by crafting artwork inspired by this year's Spring for Schools Art Contest theme.

Whether you choose to paint, sketch, color, or explore mixed media, make sure to present your masterpiece on a vertical 8.5" x 11" paper.

The first-place winner will earn the prestigious opportunity to grace the front cover of the MISF Breakfast of Champions program.

Additionally, the top three winners will be prominently featured at the Breakfast of Champions event, celebrating their artistic achievements. Let your imagination soar and captivate us with your unique perspective on the joy of learning!

The contest is open now, and entries are due by March 15.  Please submit your art to the Mercer Island Schools Foundation office (in the Admin Building) at 4160 86th Ave SE, Mercer Island, WA.

REQUIRED: Artist's name, school, grade, and an email and phone number must be included on the back of artwork.

By entering this MISF art contest, you agree to allow the Foundation to use your art in all marketing materials.

Cultural Highlights
Celebrating Black History Month

People in the United States celebrate the achievements and history of African Americans as part of Black History Month every February. Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans living in the United States today.

Here are books recommended for the Black History Month:

1. Hidden Figures by Shetterly, Margot Lee

2. Trailblazer by Schubert, Leda

3. Libba by Veirs, Laura

4. The United States V. Jackie Robinson by Bardhan-Quallen, Sudipta

Happy Lunar New Year!

Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year among East and Southeast Asian cultures. The New Year typically begins with the first new moon and spans the first 15 days of the first month of the lunar calendar—until the full moon arrives. 2024 is the Year of Dragon. Lunar New Year begins on February 10 and ends on February 24th. Tied to the lunar calendar, the holiday began as a time for feasting and to honor households and ancestors.
