Music Programs (4th & 5th Grade)

To help Lakeridge families, your Lakeridge PTA has collected a list of Mercer Island School District music programs that are offered for 4th and 5th graders as Mercer Island is well-known statewide for its music program. The PTA does not sponsor these programs. 

  

  

band & orchestra (5th grade)

This program is an exceptional opportunity for students offering specific instruction on their chosen instrument, as well as universal musical concepts and skills. The program stresses the collaborative cooperation and teamwork necessary for group success. This program is also the gateway to the exceptional music programs at IMS and MIHS. Most importantly, it’s fun!

 

Who is eligible? The 5th grade instrumental music program is available to any interested 5th grader in the Mercer Island School District. 

 

Dates: This instructional program is taught before school, 8:15-9:00am.

 

Cost: Free of charge by the Mercer Island School District

Choir (4th & 5th Grade)

Students learn to sing in 2-3 part harmony and how to prepare for a performance. Students perform during these school and district events:

  • Veteran’s Day Assembly in November

  • Fall Concert in December

  • All-District Choir Concert in March

Who is eligible? Choir is open to all 4th and 5th grade students.

 

Dates: Choir and is held before school one day a week at Lakeridge and runs from September to March.

 

Registration: Further information will be made available to all incoming 4th and 5th graders in September.

 

Cost: Free 

 

 

  

steel drum band (4th & 5th grade)

Experience the signature sounds of the Caribbean islands and learn fun, upbeat songs on these unique instruments! The Steel Drum Band performs at a number of school events, including Bingo Night and the December school concert.

 

Who is eligible? Steel Drum Band is open to 4th and 5th grade students. Space in the Band is limited and is first come/first served.

 

Registration: Signup info will be made available to students after the start of the school year.

 

Dates: Steel Drum Band rehearses once a week. Generally, it runs October through May.

 

Cost: There is a minimal supply fee.
