PTA Membership Matters!

Being a member of the Lakeridge PTA is more than volunteering at the school or donating to the Ask Campaign. You are supporting the State and National PTAs to advocate on behalf of ALL children. Legislative priorities include:

  • Mental Health and Social Emotional Learning Staff
  • Support Students and Preserve Educational Funding
  • Increasing Educational Equity
  • Support to Students with Disabilities and Their Families
  • Prevent and Reduce Gun Violence 
 

 

 

 

The Lakeridge PTA does more than just raise money for the school or plan fun events. During the pandemic we provided opportunities for parents to meet with Principal Christensen over zoom. We found creative ways to engage our students: they zoomed around the world during a virtual International Night and learned from local STEM leaders during our Science Week. We were able to keep Lakeridge traditions alive. We organized class photos, the 3rd Grade Bike Rodeo, and were able to celebrate our 5th Graders with sweatshirt signing and a Memory Book among other things.

 

Our role is more important than ever in connecting parents, teachers and administrators and supporting critical school needs. We want every family to join our PTA in order to build a stronger, more inclusive school community. Every member has a voice and more voices can affect greater changes needed to improve the educational experience.

 

 

Our goal is 100% membership among parents. Being a member of the Lakeridge PTA shows:

  • your support for the education and well-being of all children. Having a larger membership means a stronger legislative voice at the national, state, and local levels with:
    • National PTA, the oldest child advocacy organization in the nation,
    • Washington State PTA, the largest nonprofit, volunteer organization in the state, and
    • Mercer Island PTA Council, which supports local school PTAs on Mercer Island
  • your appreciation for the efforts of Lakeridge PTA to enrich the school: from the programs and events we sponsor, to the popular after-school programs and clubs that we organize, and to the fundraisers we plan which help close public school funding gaps via grants to the school for learning support, teacher stipends, enrichment programs, and much more.

Yes, donating to the Ask Campaign supports the PTA (thank you!) and volunteering at events supports the PTA (thank you!) but being a member provides additional value by:

  • Getting parent feedback to the school administration
  • Representing the parent voice at the district and state level for back-to-school planning
  • Speaking up for the students that need additional support
  • Sharing school information from the school and district
  • Sharing mental health resources
  • Organizing at-home enrichment activities for art, science, and culture
  • Sharing parent education opportunities

Let's combat some COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS

  

☒ I have to volunteer if I join the PTA.

☑ Volunteering is great, but completely optional, as is serving in any leadership position. 

 

☒ I only have to purchase a membership once. 

☑ Memberships are annual. You must purchase a new membership every year to keep your membership current. 

 

☒ I am already a member of a different local PTA.

☑ There is no limit to the number of PTAs you can support.

 

☒Only parents can join the PTA.

☑ Any adult who wants to support our children and Lakeridge Elementary can join the PTA, including: working and stay-at-home parents, teachers, staff, grandparents, other extended family members, and community members.
